On February 20, bodega owners, activists and politicians gathered outside of City Hall to express concerns regarding the ban of plastic bags in New York state.
They asked to hold off on the ban in order to give more time to educate consumers, bodega owners and other small businesses.
Today the ban goes into effect, however the state agreed to suspend enforcement after a coalition of bodega owners, packaging companies and others sought a temporary injunction and restraining order to block the regulations.
The Cuomo administration has agreed to suspend enforcement until April 1, 2020.
